The aim of IAPB is to promote and support a global campaign against all forms of avoidable blindness, with a specific effort towards communities without means. It works with the UN and its specialized agencies, with governments and national and international organizations concerned with blindness and its prevention, develops an advocacy to promote national prevention and awareness, promotes the exchange of professional and technical information on all forms of avoidable blindness and visual impairment, and supports the monitoring of the progress towards achieving the collectively expressed goals of the global initiative.
It is part of the “Vision 2020” project launched by the WHO in 1999 and ending in 2020, raises awareness with special events and conferences every year on the ‘World Sight Day’, and organized mobile ophthalmic unites delivering free eyes check-up through the country.
