2013 World Sight Day – Towards Universal Eye Health
To commemorate last year’s World Sight Day (October 10, 2013), the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) compiled this interesting and informative report. The report aims to draw attention to the global need for universal eye health coverage. Given that approximately 285 million people around the globe are effected by visual impairment and 4 out of 5 cases of these cases are preventable, the need to institute a policy of universal eye health coverage is imminent.
The report is comprehensive, detailing the steps which must occur to implement a complex policy like universal eye health, addressing the challenges faced by governments in implementing such a policy, and providing regional updates to showcase the progress made in different regions throughout the world.
